What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/ After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
A cookie is a very small text file, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier. When you visit a website, your computer is asked for permission to store this file in a part of your hard drive designated for cookies.
Cookies are used by web developers to help users navigate their websites efficiently and perform certain functions.
Information gathered through cookies may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed and how long a visitor spends on a site. Online shopping sites use cookies to remember the items you saved in your shopping cart.
Computer cookies are created not just by the website the user is browsing but also by other websites that run ads, widgets, or other elements on the page being loaded.
For further details on cookies please visit https://allaboutcookies.org where you can find detailed information on cookies, including how to turn them on and off, and similar technologies.
If you leave a comment on our site you may have the option to opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
You can find a link to our cookie policy in the bottom right of our web pages, just above the ‘manage consent’ button where you can change your cookie preferences at any time.
Analytics
Once we have selected an analytics solution for this new website, to understand how visitors engage with our site and to improve its performance, we will post the details here.
Hosting
This website is hosted by Siteground.
Siteground’s full privacy policy, including purposes of, and legal basis for, data processing can be found here: https://www.siteground.com/privacy.htm
WP Recipe Maker
We use the WP Recipe Maker plugin to create a recipe card in our blog posts.
Bootstrapped Ventures, the developer of WP Recipe Maker, does not have access to any of the data collected by the plugin.
If comment ratings are enabled, we store the rating a user has given to a recipe along with the personal data WordPress core stores.
When user ratings are enabled we store a WPRM_User_Voted_%recipe% cookie (with %recipe% the ID of the recipe) that contains the rating this user has given to a particular recipe. This cookie is used as one of the measures to prevent rating spam.
When user ratings are enabled we store the IP address upon voting. This is used as another of the measures to prevent rating spam. WP Recipe maker cookies are stored for 30 days. User submitted data is stored indefinitely in the local database.
Complianz – the Privacy Suite for WordPress
This website uses the Privacy Suite for WordPress by Complianz. We may collect and record browser and device-based consent. For this functionality, your IP address is anonymized and stored in our database. This service does not process any personally identifiable information and does not share any data with the service provider. For more information, see the Complianz Privacy Statement.
Social media
This site contains links to social media platforms. We also use the “Pin It” button across our site to enable visitors to save or share pictures via Pinterest. These services use cookies and collect statistical information about the usage of their services. Please refer to the policies of each platform for further information.

Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. We have no control over these websites or the information they collect.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Please refer to their privacy policies.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update our privacy policy from time to time. Updates will appear on this page. You are advised to review this privacy policy along with our cookie policy periodically for any changes.
